After nearly twenty successful years in Corporate America, J. Todd Phillips set out to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams. In spring 2013, he founded Parson Partners, a boutique strategic business services and advisory firm. As CEO of Parson Partners, J .Todd is accountable for setting the vision and overall leadership of the firm, generating and maintaining business and participates in the execution of most of the firm’s engagements. Through Parson, Phillips and his team partner with Fortune 500 companies, governmental agencies, hospitals & physician groups and small & mid-sized business throughout the US. Services include strategic planning and execution, business development, talent management and executive coaching. Phillips is often engaged as an interim executive – typically CEO, COO or Chief Marketing Officer – for mid-sized companies in need of specialized leadership and guidance.
A recognized business leader, Phillips serves on the Board of Directors at Land of Lincoln Health, a health insurance firm serving commercial employers and individual members throughout the state of Illinois. He chairs the Insurance Committee and is also a member of the Nominating committee. As an operating partner with two venture capital firms, Phillips also serves as a Board Director and Advisor to multiple portfolio companies focused in healthcare and B2B services. Committed to education, J. Todd is Chairman of the Executive Advisory Council for Northeastern Illinois University’s College of Business & Management and also teaches business management courses at the Chicago-based university.
Prior to founding Parson, Phillips served for more than 12 years at three of the nation’s largest health insurance carriers. His roles have included leadership of strategy, B2B sales, marketing and operations. Most recently, Phillips had overall P&L accountability of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois’ Local Markets segments, a $14 billion division of the insurance giant. Phillips is credited with leading the organization through a turnaround that resulted in remarkable membership and profitability gains while also preparing the organization to lead in the post-healthcare reform era. J. Todd spent the first six years of his career with Delta Air Lines in multiple roles of increasing responsibility.
In addition to his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Morehouse College, J. Todd has also completed numerous executive education programs at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and was certified as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Phillips and his family are very active in the community; he has served on numerous civic Boards, coached countless youth sports teams and is a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow. J. Todd is also a frequent panelist, keynote speaker and healthcare industry subject matter expert.
