Sue Shanks serves as the Affiliate Director of TXCPSO, Inc. (Destination Imagination Texas). She received her BS in Education and Master of Education with a counseling certification from Texas A&M Commerce. She began her teaching career at Greenville ISD teaching Advanced Social Studies Problems and Economics. Ms. Shanks has twenty one hours post graduate work. In 1998, she became an administrator at Dallas ISD. During her teaching and administrative period, Ms. Shanks and a partner established an educational consulting business and together, they wrote two books. In 2002, she was hired as the Affiliate Director of TXCPSO, Inc. In 2002, TXCPSO, Inc. had 1820 teams in Texas. During the 2015-2016 Destination Imagination season, TXCPSO, Inc. has over 3500 teams registered to participate in Destination Imagination.
Ms. Shanks’ participation in academic competitions began in 1987 as a Team Manager of four teams. also served as a school coordinator, Regional Director for East Region for six years, and Regional Director for the Dallas Region for five years.
Community involvement is a great part of Ms. Shanks’ life. She is currently serving as the President of the New Horizon’s Advisory Board and has been a member of the board for the last seven years. Sue served as the Chairman of the Awards Committee for Bras for the Cause for four years, served on the Texas A&M Alumni Board, was secretary of the Alumni Board and as Founder and Chairman of the Greenville Athletic Hall of Fame for ten years.
She and her late husband, Preston, have two adult daughters. The oldest daughter is a Divisional Vice President of a nursing home corporation and her youngest daughter is the Director of Special Education in a Texas public school district. Her pride and joy are her three grandchildren—one granddaughter and twin grandsons.
