It may be winter now, but it’s already time to start planning for your best summer yet! Registration is now open for Destination Imagination New Hampshire’s Camp Gottalikachallenge.
Camp Gottalikachallenge (also known as Gotta Camp) is one of the oldest creativity camps in the United States. Every summer, they welcome campers from New England and beyond for six days of fun along one of New Hampshire’s most beautiful lakes.
Gotta Camp provides a fast-paced adventure in problem solving and fills campers’ days with hands-on learning and challenging activities, offering plenty of mental muscle-stretching games and fun guaranteed to get their creative juices flowing.
Gotta Camp creates a safe, structured, caring and supportive environment. Campers are encouraged to share their talents, to take risks, to recognize their similarities and differences, to be inclusive, and to have fun! In this idyllic place, campers often form lasting friendships with their team and dorm mates.
The camp program focuses on helping all campers develop their own creative potential. The ultimate goal is to empower campers to approach life’s challenges with confidence, honing their creative and critical thinking skills, teamwork and leadership skills, and problem solving abilities.
Each morning, campers work in teams of 10 with two staff members to create a solution to the week’s Gotta-Problem. In addition, campers participate in shorter offbeat, problem-solving activities that contribute to our overall atmosphere of zany fun. Every afternoon, campers are given a choice of activities–land and some water sports, or a specialty session–a potpourri of stage craft techniques, improv games, arts and crafts, unusual projects and other offerings. Evening activities range from campfires to a talent show to group challenges. Think FUN 24/7!
Gotta Camp welcomes any child entering fifth through ninth grade (ages 10-14) who likes to have fun! No prior experience with New Hampshire DI or creative problem solving needed. Enthusiasm for group activities, curiosity, an eagerness to learn, and enjoyment of thinking outside the box is a must. Gotta campers are expected to treat each other with respect, to approach activities with an open mind and to contribute in a positive way to the camp experience.
Gotta Camp’s high-energy staff is dedicated to making each child’s experience at camp thoroughly rewarding. The staff includes a Director, Assistant Director and experienced coaches and junior coaches–many of whom were campers themselves. Most adult staffers have degrees in education and/or extensive experience with Destination Imagination, and all are skilled in facilitating creative problem solving activities. Each staff member has unique skills and talents to share, and plans specialty games and activities for campers.
Camp Gottalikachallenge offers two one-week sessions:
Session 1: July 30 – August 4
Session 2: August 6 – 11
Register before May 1, 2017 to take advantage of the Early Bird rate of $675. (Full price is $750.) Financial assistance is available for campers who qualify. Visit NH-DI.org/CAMP to access the online registration system.
