Dear Hero Challenge Extended!

By: Tina Shaffer

We know many of our Destination Imagination students are hard at work preparing for their upcoming tournament, which is why we’re happy to announce that we’ve extended the deadline for our Dear Hero challenge to April 17.

Dear Hero is our first-ever computer science challenge and was developed in collaboration with Oracle Academy. It’s 100% free and is a great way to spark your child or student’s interest in coding and computer science.

For this challenge, students will use Oracle Academy’s Alice 3 software to create a personalized Thank You message for someone who has made a difference in their life.

One winning animation will be selected and the winning individual or team will become Oracle Ambassador(s). As an Ambassador, you and your Hero will be invited to attend the 2016 Destination Imagination Global Finals—the world’s largest celebration of student creativity—at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, May 25-28, 2016. In addition to experiencing the fun and excitement of such a gathering, your special Thank You message will be presented to more than 16,000 attendees and your Hero will be presented with a special award at the event.

The deadline to submit your video is April 17, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Who can participate in the Dear Hero challenge?

This challenge is recommended for anyone 10 years of age or older. However, children under the age of 10 may still participate. You can participate individually or with a team of up to 7 people. If anyone on a team is under the age of 18, he or she must have legal parent or guardian consent to participate in this challenge.
