Early Learning Challenge: Exploring Cultures of the World

By: Tina Shaffer

Children are natural STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) investigators who are eager to explore, observe, create and ask questions. Our Rising Stars for Early Learners Challenge, designed for preschool through second-grade kids, allows them to do just that – all while having fun and making new friends! This play-based Challenge also helps kids develop critical and creative thinking skills, become comfortable working in teams, and learn how to speak in front of an audience.

For this year’s Rising Stars Challenge, Friends Everywhere, teams will explore how children of different cultures live, learn and play. They will then create a play that tells a story about two different cultures. The story should present similarities and differences between the two cultures. Teams will enhance their story and presentation by creating costumes and scenery. They will also design and build a prop that will transform and be used in two different ways.
