Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2016 Graham Cracker Challenge! For this year’s challenge, we asked you to create a structure inspired by one of your favorite books. In just three weeks, we received more than 50 creative submissions. We also got a few book ideas to add to our reading lists!
The 5 photo submissions that received the most votes were appraised by the Destination Imagination, Inc. staff based on the following criteria:
- Overall creativity of the structure (up to 20 points)
- Creativity of special feature #1 (up to 15 points)
- Creativity of special feature #2 (up to 15 points)

First Place ($100 Visa Gift Card): “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. Structure designed by Amiyah and Luke M. from Elkton, Maryland.
Two Special Features: The starlight smoke stacks and the chocolate river.
Second Place ($50 Visa Gift Card): “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling. Structure designed by DI team CevRecyclers from Istanbul, Turkey.
Two Special Features: The Sorting Hat and Harry Potter on top of the hat.
Third Place (Copy of “Instant Challenge Volume 8”): “Hansel and Gretel” meets magical creatures! Structure designed as a group effort by four DI teams from Amesbury, Massachusetts: The Jolly Puppies, Green Rabbits in a Hat, Majestic Disco Dancing Narwhals, and Chubby Cats with Funny Little Hats.
Two Special Features: Unicorn made from spice drops and an opening oven made from graham crackers.
