In just two weeks, Destination Imagination (DI) will host its largest annual conference—Ignite: Innovation for Education! Ignite 2014 will be held at the Westin Park Central Hotel in Dallas, TX from July 24-26, and is open to all educators and DI volunteers who are passionate about 21st century learning, STEM principles, and the urgency to foster students with the skills necessary to succeed in today’s world.
This year’s conference will feature 63 sessions geared toward a variety of DI volunteer roles (Team Managers, Affiliate Directors, Appraisers, etc.) as well as educators who yearn for more tools to inspire, engage and excite students in the classroom.
Many of our popular Volunteer and Educator workshops are filling up fast, so be sure to register soon!
Volunteer Workshop Highlights:
The Volunteer portion of the conference will be held on Friday, July 25. Whether you’re a Team Manager, Affiliate or Regional Director, or Appraiser, our Volunteer workshops are designed to provide you with the best possible tools you will need to succeed in your DI role. Learn how to train your team to excel at learning through their DI Challenge solution (The Wells Approach to Team Managing), increase your comfort with approaching educators about DI (Speaking “Educationese”: Being Informed with Educators) and evaluate creativity using new rubrics (Evaluating Creativity).
Educator Workshop Highlights:
The Educator portion of the conference will be held on Saturday, July 26. Whether you’re a part of the DI community or interested in learning more about the core principles of Destination Imagination, our Educator workshops are designed to leverage 21st century learning tools to improve the educational experience. Learn how to integrate engaging games that meet needs and ignite passions in the classroom (Playful Learning: Bringing Game-Based Learning to your Classroom), use creative content to explore a deeper learning with your students (Pursuing Creativity through Meaningful Rigor), incorporate methods that make managing and leading learning projects more straightforward and productive (Project Management in the Classroom), and provide a truly equitable environment in the classroom to encourage all students to pursue their passions for STEM (Micromessaging to Reach and Teach Every Student).
We’re excited to announce that Cheryl “Action” Jackson will be joining us as the keynote speaker for our Volunteer portion of the conference on Friday, July 24!
Cheryl “Action” Jackson is an award-winning philanthropist, trailblazer and million-dollar fundraiser with a true story of triumph to tell. As a catalyst of change and champion of comeback, Cheryl “Action” Jackson discovered her life’s mission through unforeseen adversity and setbacks. From being homeless and hungry to providing more than 3 million meals to families through Minnie’s Food Pantry, a charity dedicated in honor of her mother, Minnie Ewing. Minnie’s Food Pantry values and esteems families by providing a “red carpet” experience when they come on-site to receive food.
As a media maven and personality, Jackson produced weekly segments on ABC’s “Good Morning Texas” and was featured in “The Dallas Morning News” with her popular article, “Take Action.” Recently, she hosted a movie premiere segment on ET’s, “The Insider.” She also authored a memoir of her journey, “What in the World Are You Doing?” The Huffington Post honored Jackson as the “Greatest Person of The Day.”
But at the end of the day, Cheryl’s critical mission is to cry as the voice for the hungry and to hear as the heart and soul of hurting humanity. Her mission and message to the masses will continue to move forward through feeding and filling with unconditional love, compassion, hope, purpose, faith and, of course, action!
