At Destination Imagination, Inc., we believe that all children should have access to high-quality educational programming that bolsters academic performance, builds social skills and directly contributes to their success in life.
With the recent proposed cuts to the Department of Education’s budget—specifically the proposal to zero out the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLCs) program—many children across the country could lose access to after-school and summer programming.
According to the Afterschool Alliance, 20 million families want and need more after-school and summer learning opportunities. For every child in a program, two are waiting to get in.
If this proposal were to be enacted, disadvantaged students—particularly students of color—would suffer the greatest. The good news, however, is that this only a proposal.
