Is your team unable to return to in-person instruction?
Or do they just love the virtual DI experience?

We want to ensure that ALL students are able to participate in DI during the 2021-22 school year, so we’ve created a brand new way to challenge creative minds around the world!

For the teams unable to meet in person or for the teams just looking for a new way to do DI, the 2021 Digital Open is here!

Six Weeks to Solve!

Registered teams will receive the Challenge on October 1. Then, they will have just under 6 weeks to solve one awesome new Challenge that’s flexible enough for any learning environment – virtual, in-person or hybrid.

See below for the complete schedule!

Top the Digital Charts

Just like at Global Finals, teams will be scored and ranked. Winners will be announced in December. There will also be a virtual showcase for all the teams’ hard work!

Truly OPEN to Everyone

Best of all, it’s open to students anywhere in the world and team members do not have to be in the same location. So grab your friends, no matter where they are, and get ready to make some digital magic in The 2021 DI Digital Open.

And in case you’re wondering – YES, you may participate in both the 2021 Digital Open AND in the traditional, in-person Challenge Experience.

Lights, Camera, Action!

  • Create and present a Video Presentation based on a Genre Trope from a chosen Film Genre.
  • Include a Trope Twist in the story.
  • Use lighting techniques to enhance the Video Presentation.
  • Design and create a practical effect that enhances the Video Presentation.
  • Create and present one Team Choice Element that shows off the team’s interests, skills, areas of strength, and talents.

The Digital Open is open to teams competing at the Elementary, Middle, Secondary, and University Levels. Please visit our Help Center to learn about age and grade requirements for each level of competition.

Teams may consist of 2-7 members, just like with our in-person Challenge Experience!
