As we begin a new year, we’re excited to share an important leadership update with the Destination Imagination community.
Destination Imagination is pleased to welcome Mark Giordono as our next Chief Executive Officer. Mark will officially step into the role on January 15, following Michele Tuck-Ponder’s tenure as CEO.
Mark brings more than two decades of leadership experience across education, innovation, and mission-driven organizations. Most recently, he served in senior executive roles at FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), where he helped lead organizational strategy, partnerships, alumni engagement, and large-scale programs serving millions of students and educators worldwide. His background spans nonprofit leadership, higher education, and the private sector, and he is strongly committed to educational experiences that help young people build essential life and career skills.
At Destination Imagination, we believe creativity is an essential skill for innovating, problem-solving, building confidence, and driving positive impact in the world. Mark’s leadership philosophy closely aligns with that belief. He brings a collaborative, people-centered approach and a deep respect for how students learn, grow, and bring their ideas to life.
As CEO, Mark will work closely with DI’s staff, Affiliates, volunteers, alumni, donors, and partners to strengthen learner-led programming, support sustainable growth, and expand opportunities for students worldwide. We’re excited about the perspective he will bring and how his experience will support the incredible work already happening across our global DI community.
We also want to recognize and thank Michele Tuck-Ponder for her eight years of leadership as CEO. During her tenure, she guided Destination Imagination through meaningful growth and organizational change, strengthening programs and operations and laying the foundation for the organization’s next chapter.
To our students, Team Managers, volunteers, Affiliates, alumni, supporters, and partners: thank you for the many ways you engage with and support Destination Imagination and for the role you play in making this community what it is. We’re looking forward to the year ahead and to continuing our mission of advancing creativity as an essential skill for young people around the world.
