COVID-19 Update: DI Tournaments & Global Finals

Weekly Update from Our Executive Director

To the Destination Imagination Community,

As you know, there is considerable international media coverage on coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has identified this virus as a “very serious public health threat,” but the CDC cautions that the immediate risk to the American public remains low at this time. Destination Imagination, Inc. is keeping informed on this matter on a daily basis.

We are working closely with our Affiliate organizations across the U.S. and around the world to help them find solutions for their local events when COVID-19 is present in their community.

Our organization is also working with local and state authorities in Kansas City, Missouri regarding an Action Plan for Global Finals 2020 and will continue to monitor the situation as we have with similar issues in the past.

Regarding Global Finals 2020, we anticipate that there will be several teams that are unable to attend due to travel restrictions. In order to ensure the best possible tournament experience, we have plans in place to allow teams to fill spots that may become available as a result of travel restrictions. We encourage all teams who are interested in attending Global Finals to keep their props in case we have additional spots for this year’s event.

We anticipate moving forward with a decision and contingency plans no later than the week of April 6. This will still allow us time to invite additional teams, depending on how many additional spots there are.

The health, safety and well-being of our community members remain our highest priority. We encourage everyone to visit the CDC website and to continue to take preventive actions, including frequently washing your hands, to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, such as COVID-19.

Best Regards,

Michele Tuck-Ponder
